mom and daughter on the beach

Hi I'm Kelli,

an Eco Travel Blogger and the founder of Compass & Coastline. My earliest memories of travel are with my family, where we would pile into the car and road trip to the beach.  I looked forward to it every year, and loved the feeling of being somewhere new. I think these early days at the coast made me love marine animals and dream of being a marine biologist one day.

I was ready for an adventure,

so I took a job in education that allowed me to live at the beach (a dream come true for me!) and travel as part of my job. I started  in San Diego and explored the west coast for 5 years, then moved to Florida to see more of the gulf coast and east coast for 2 more years. Needless to say, I’m always trying to get closer to the ocean, to both explore and protect it.

I've always had a creative side

so I decided to start a travel blog. After all, I was already taking tons of photos and videos and I wanted a place to share my thoughts with the world. It was the perfect way to combine my hobbies of photography/writing, background in education, and passion for the ocean and marine animals all into one!

One of the best things I've ever done

was volunteer in sea turtle rescue and rehabilitation at Gulf World Marine Institute in Panama City Beach, Florida. It was a dream come true to interact with marine animals and learn more about them. It opened my eyes to all the ways we can have an impact on the ocean and its creatures, and made me want to get more involved in ocean conservation.

I'm on a mission

to “turn the tide” of tourism negatively affecting the ocean and marine life. I think there’s a better way to travel! I hope to inspire you to explore the coast sustainably by sharing eco tips, travel guides and easy ways to get involved. I would love for you to follow along and join me!
